Im Back!

Sorry I have been away for so long guys, things got crazy at deadline and the blog got pushed to the bottom of my to-do list! I will post pictures of my finished costume soon!
SO second year has begun! ARGH! I'm nervous, started with millinery and tailoring. Thankfully I have taken to millinery like a duck takes to water, I absolutely love it and think I have found my career path! Unfortunately I can not say the same for tailoring, don't get me wrong I love hand sewing but, (you could hear that but coming couldn't you?!) its so difficult! When I'm trying to listen to the tutor I honestly feel like she is talking Swahili. Think I will have to find a tailoring for dummies book! Anybody else feel this way about tailoring? Any tips on how to simplify it?

Well folks that's all for today, will post some pictures of my millinery very soon!

Thanks for reading!

Elphabas Bodice

Started Elphabas bodice this week. I love it! My sewing skills are getting better, cut the pattern pieces and sewed it all together in one session! Just got to keep up the pace.

For the decoration I have cut up scraps of fabric and zig-zagged over them to get the desired effect. The colours are a tad bright so I am thinking about covering it with a thin black chiffon and then sewing over with swirls. Any suggestion are welcome :)

toile making

making my toile for elphabas act 2 dress and disaster strike! oh no! I put the dart in the wrong way on one of the back pieces of the bodice, and for some reason I could not get my head around where I had gone wrong. Had a cup of coffee and put it right again! dreading putting a collar in, but theres a first time for everything, right? wish me luck! Did some draping on the mannequin for the bodice/corset, my favourite way to pattern draft if I'm honest. Still got boat loads of research to do. The joys of being a costumier!

Pattern Drafting!

started my pattern drafting for my costume today, its harder than people think! used block patterns for a bodice and skirt then manipulated them. Made pattern pieces for an extra flared A-Line skirt, and a bodice with a collar. Cant wait to start making my toile! Anyone got any advice on making Elphabas act 2 costume? :)

west end nights!

New Assignment Brief! :D

Finally got my new assignment brief, 'West End Nights' to work in a team to interpret and recreate a costume from and west end show. After long consideration I narrowed it down to two, Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. Toughest choice ever! Eventually me and my team decided on Wicked, I chose to do Elphaba! DREAM COME TRUE!! I'm so excited, already got loads of research done, wondering if i can use it as an excuse to get the BF to take me to see it again! I'll post my progress throughout the making. Any comments are welcome! :D

Baroque Fashion

My FIRST post! Bit nervous. SO my first is going to be about my essay question. I'm getting writers block :(  Its all about Baroque, how it has influenced our time? I was thinking about looking at the Fashion aspect of it. I think Baroque was big in the winter, really need a Fashionistas view on the matter. I was thinking about linking in Alexander Mcqueen, I think these designs are influenced by Baroque. Any feed back? :)
